Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

August 24, 2026

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

Are you ready for an exciting week at Eagle Canyon? On Wednesday, we start the festivities with a Title 1 Meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the MPR. I would appreciate your time as I provide information regarding our Title 1 requirements. The evening will continue with a PTA Meeting and classroom visits. Two sessions are scheduled for those who have multiple children at Eagle Canyon. Session 1 begins at 5:30 and Session 2 at 6:00 p.m.

The exciting week continues with our second Grandparents' Day event. If you haven't done so, please RSVP. The flyer is linked below. Last year, we were overwhelmed by the number of people who arrived. We want to be prepared with plenty of snacks and coffee. As a reminder, please avoid parking in the staff parking spots. If grandparents have mobility concerns, you may want to arrange for them to be dropped off and picked up after the event. Several families did that last year, and they were so happy they did.

Grades 1 and 2 participated in a behavior assembly last week. A couple of topics addressed, in addition to the regular expectations of being safe, respectful, and responsible, are outlined below.
  • Electronic signaling devices must be turned off and stored in backpacks while on campus. If a student wears a smart watch, the watch must be set to School Settings or turned off entirely.
  • Dress code: Shoes must have a back strap. If students wear slides or Crocs without a heel strap, we will require parents to bring appropriate shoes. Uggs are another popular shoe right now. Unfortunately, the style we were seeing does not have a back to secure it to the foot. These are not allowed. The best shoes are those that let students run and be active on the playground.
  • Dress code continued: When planning outfits, shirts need to be long enough that, when students raise their hands, we do not see skin, and there must be no holes in clothing from their shoulders to the tips of their fingers when their hands are at their sides.

If students do not follow the dress code, they will be asked to wear loaner clothes for the day. Please help us ensure we are providing a positive learning environment for everyone on campus.

Thank you for supporting our school!

Traffic Reminders

Traffic before school and after school can be heavy. Please plan to leave your house early to avoid the rush.

Bus Gate/Eagle Canyon Drive
This is a loading/unloading zone only. Please do not park where there is a yellow curb. You could be at risk of receiving a ticket from a San Bernardino Sheriff's Deputy.

Parking Lot
Students are not allowed to walk in the parking lot without an adult. Please do not ask them or an older sibling to walk to your car. You must accompany them to ensure their safety.

Please drive in the parking lot with caution. When people are distracted while driving, they create unsafe environments for themselves, the students, and other vehicles in the parking lot.

U-Turns
U-turns are not allowed in front of Eagle Canyon Drive. If you make a U-turn, you risk getting a ticket from a Sheriff's Deputy. If you are in a hurry, continue to drive up Eagle Canyon Drive. There is an exit to Chino Ave. further up the street.

Eagle Canyon Apartments
Each year, I receive reports from parents of cars speeding through the Eagle Canyon Apartments. Please be mindful of our neighbors and the children who are walking home. We want everyone to get home safely.

Thank you!

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Eagle Canyon's student attendance will continue to be a focus this year. School attendance leads to better performance in adulthood.

Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss essential instruction, and it takes a while to catch up. Parents of students at risk of chronic absenteeism must meet with Mrs. Bearden or Mr. Fellows to sign an agreement to improve overall attendance.

We surpassed our district attendance goal by .24%. We met our goal Monday through Wednesday. Let's continue to make attendance a priority.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If interested, please stop by the office, complete the request, and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan. We need two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

The kids get so excited seeing their birthday highlighted on the marquee. Out of safety, we will never publish your child's last name, only the initial.

The August character trait is courage. Courage isn't about failing; it's about getting back up every time life knocks you down. The emphasis is on perseverance, resilience, and refusing to give up.

August Character Trait

Each month, Eagle Canyon will focus on teaching students about a character trait. We will share it during our Monday Morning Rallies, and teachers will reinforce it by recognizing one student each month for a monthly award.

SUPPORT EAGLE CANYON

A popular fundraising opportunity that all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are no items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to earn our school money.

As of today, our school has earned $58.60 this year. Our goal is to earn $1,500. Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Thank you in advance for your support!

Staff Shout-Out

The Eagle Canyon staff is committed to providing a positive school culture where we all work together to create a positive learning environment for our students. It begins when families walk onto our campus for the first time and continues each and every day. Take a moment to recognize a staff member's outstanding dedication and hard work. Your shout out will be featured in the staff newsletter for the whole staff to see. It may also be read during the Monday Morning Rally.
