Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

May 18, 2026

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

Happy Last Week of School!

We had the best time on Friday! Thank you to all the parent volunteers and staff members who made our annual Tailgate a great success. Our PTA Board did a fantastic job organizing this event for our students.

Have a fantastic week!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

SIXTH GRADE PARENT CHAPERONES
If you are chaperoning the Knott's Berry Farm Field Trip, please ensure you have completed the Parent Volunteer form linked below. You also must meet in the MPR by 8:30 so we can review the expectations for the day. Thank you for dedicating your day to ensuring our sixth graders have a great time.

FUN RUN DJ PARTY
DJ party this Wednesday, 5/20, 11:30-12:30 in the MPR for those who qualified (invitations were sent out). To attend, please be sure to turn in your field trip permission slip, even though it's on campus. Parents pick up at 12:30. Any questions, please call the office.

ADDITIONAL MINIMUM DAY
This week, we have two minimum days. Wednesday and Thursday are both minimum days. Please be sure to arrange for your child to be picked up on time.

BEANSTACK
In January, the Eagle Canyon PTA launched a reading program called Beanstack. It is an engaging way to motivate students to read, and each student accesses the program through their ClassLink account. They can track their time spent reading and log the books they read. Students in Grades 3 - 6 are encouraged to chat with Benny, an interactive bot, to strengthen their comprehension. So far, 70% of Eagle Canyon students have logged their reading activity.

As a school, I have challenged the students to read 60,000 minutes by the end of the year. We surpassed that goal! As of today, we have read 220,657 minutes, with Mrs. Shin's third graders leading with 4,050 minutes in May. Each week, I will highlight students, classes, and grade levels who are making significant reading progress during our Monday Morning Rally.

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Student attendance at Eagle Canyon will be a focus this year. Regular school attendance is associated with better academic performance in adulthood.

Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss out on essential instruction, and it takes time for them to catch up. Parents of students at risk of Chronic Absenteeism will be required to meet with Mrs. Bearden or Mrs. Madkin to sign an agreement to improve overall attendance.

We surpassed our district attendance goal by 0.03% 😁 We met our attendance goal Tuesday through Friday last week. Please continue to make attendance a priority to ensure your child is prepared for the next grade and beyond.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If interested, please stop by the office, complete the request, and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan. We need two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

The kids get so excited seeing their birthday highlighted on the marquee. Out of safety, we will never publish your child's last name, only the initial.

STAFF SHOUT OUT

Celebrate the "Happiest School on Earth" by giving a shout-out to a magical EC staff member today! Recognize their outstanding dedication and hard work by completing the form linked below. Your shout-out will be featured in the staff newsletter for the whole staff to see. It may also be read during the Monday Morning Rally.

May Character Trait - Reflective
Reflective means thinking carefully about something, like your actions, choices, or feelings, and learning from it.

MAY CHARACTER TRAIT

Each month, Eagle Canyon will focus on teaching students about a character trait. We will share it during our Monday Morning Rallies, and teachers will reinforce it by recognizing one student each month for a monthly award.
We reached our Box Top Goal!

SUPPORT EAGLE CANYON

A popular fundraising opportunity that all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are no items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to generate money for our school.

As of today, our school has earned $1,506.10 this year. We met our goal! Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Shout out to First Grade! They have submitted 845 Box Tops since July 1, 2025. Thank you for your support!
