Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

April 27, 2026

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

Happy Chilly Sunday Morning!

Our first week of testing is in the books. I am so proud of our students who are taking their time and doing their best. I am excited to see the progress our students demonstrate on CAASPP.

We have the best families at Eagle Canyon! I want to thank the families who took time out of their Saturday to join Mr. Lee in cleaning up our garden. Check out the pictures on our Facebook page.

Sixth Grade parents, we are excited to announce that this year, we will host a promotion on the field. Hosting the promotion outdoors will allow each student to have 4 guests rather than 2. The students will participate in the promotion lottery on Monday, May 4, 2026.

Are you thinking it is time to do some Spring Cleaning? The Eagle Canyon Student Council would love to help by collecting clothing that you no longer need. During the week of May 4 - 8, 2026. Check out the flyer below!

Eagle Canyon won the CVUSD Attendance Trophy for Trimester 2! We are in contention to win an In-N-Out party at the end of the year if we have the top attendance rate. We are competing against Anna Borba, EJ Marshall, and Country Springs. At the end of month 8, we are 0.85% behind Country Springs. Let's rally together and earn the party!

Have a fantastic week!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

CAASPP TESTING
Our CAASPP testing begins this week for students in grades 3 - 6. These assessments in English Language Arts and Math help measure student learning and guide instruction.

You can help your child feel prepared by:
  • Ensuring they get a good night’s sleep
  • Providing a healthy breakfast that includes a protein
  • Sending them to school on time
  • Offering positive encouragement and reassurance

Please remind your child to simply do their best, take their time, and not worry about getting everything right. No special studying is required—our staff will provide a calm, supportive testing environment.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students. If you have questions, please contact the school office.

EAGLE CANYON MOVIE NIGHT
On Friday, May 1st, the Eagle Canyon PTA is hosting the final Family Night for the 2025-26 school year. The flyers went home last week. We hope you can join us for this unique event.

BEANSTACK
In January, the Eagle Canyon PTA launched a reading program called Beanstack. It is an engaging way to motivate students to read, and each student accesses the program through their ClassLink account. They can track their time spent reading and log the books they read. Students in Grades 3 - 6 are encouraged to chat with Benny, an interactive bot, to strengthen their comprehension. So far, 69% of Eagle Canyon students have logged their reading activity.

As a school, I have challenged the students to read 60,000 minutes by the end of the year. We surpassed that goal! As of today, we have read 181,053 minutes, with Ms. Le's second graders leading with 5,613 minutes in April. Each week, I will highlight students, classes, and grade levels who are making significant reading progress during our Monday Morning Rally.

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Student attendance at Eagle Canyon will be a focus this year. Regular school attendance is associated with better academic performance in adulthood.

Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss out on essential instruction, and it takes time for them to catch up. Parents of students at risk of Chronic Absenteeism will be required to meet with Mrs. Bearden or Mrs. Madkin to sign an agreement to improve overall attendance.

We surpassed our district attendance goal by 0.05% 😁 We met our attendance goal on Tuesday and Wednesday last week. Please continue to make attendance a priority to ensure your child is prepared for the next grade and beyond.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If interested, please stop by the office, complete the request, and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan. We need two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

The kids get so excited seeing their birthday highlighted on the marquee. Out of safety, we will never publish your child's last name, only the initial.

SUPPORT EAGLE CANYON

A popular fundraising opportunity that all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are no items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to generate money for our school.

As of today, our school has earned $1,485.80 this year. Our goal is to earn $1,500. We are getting so close! Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Shout out to First Grade! They have submitted 827 Box Tops since July 1, 2025. Thank you for your support!
