Mrs. Bearden's Weekly Update

August 11, 2025

Dear Eagle Canyon Families,

We had a fantastic first week of school! I am excited to welcome so many new families to Eagle Canyon. I have enjoyed getting to know the students while visiting the classrooms.

We have had an influx of enrollment at Eagle Canyon. As such, we had to make some changes in grades 4 - 6. I appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding during the transition. Classes are all now balanced, and we did not have to overflow any students to other schools.

Safety at arrival and dismissal each day is a top priority. During the first week of school, there were two accidents during morning drop-off. Luckily, nobody was hurt. I realize everyone is trying to get to work, but we must take our time to ensure we maintain a safe environment for our Eagle Canyon community.

Respect is another priority. Living near a school is not always easy for the community members. Please do not use the Eagle Canyon apartments as a place to drop off or pick up your students. Additionally, please avoid parking in front of driveways. We want to maintain a positive relationship with all our neighbors.

Finally, I have noticed parents are getting out of their cars when they are pulling up to the drop-off areas at the cabanas or on Eagle Canyon Drive. If you need to get out of your car to help your children, please find a parking place. When you get out of your car, it impacts our traffic. We want to provide the best scenario to get our students to their classrooms on time.

I appreciate everyone's cooperation. It takes us all working together as a team to make arrival and dismissal less stressful for you.

Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Bearden

ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER ADVISORY COUNCIL (ELAC)

ELAC is a school-level committee comprised of parents, staff, and community members designated to advise school officials on English learner programs and services. ELAC members are elected by parents/guardians of English learners. ELAC meets approximately four (4) times a school year. ELAC responsibilities include:
  • Advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners and submitting the plan to the School Site Council for consideration of inclusion in the School Plan for Student Achievement.
  • Assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment.
  • Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
  • Each ELAC shall have the opportunity to elect at least one member to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). Districts with 31 or more ELACs may use a system of proportional or regional representation.
We are seeking ELAC nominations for the 2025-2026 school year. If you are interested or would like to nominate a parent/community member, please complete the nomination form below and submit it to Eagle Canyon School Office ℅ , Mrs. Madkin, asst. principal, by Friday, August 22nd.

ATTEND TODAY, ACHIEVE TOMORROW

Eagle Canyon's student attendance will be a focus this year. Attendance in school leads to better performance for children when they are adults.

Please make illness the only reason for an absence. When your child misses school, they miss out on necessary instruction, and it takes a while for them to get caught up. Parents of students at risk of Chronic Absenteeism will have to meet with Mrs. Bearden or Mrs. Madkin to sign an agreement to improve overall attendance.

We surpassed our district attendance goal by 1%. Thank you for getting students to school. We met the goal every day! Let's continue to make attendance a priority.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS ON THE MARQUEE

Another way you can support our PTA and celebrate your child's birthday is to purchase a birthday greeting for $25 that will be displayed on your child's birthday and run for one week. If interested, please stop by the office, complete the request, and submit the payment. Please be sure to plan. We need two weeks' notice before the birthday to ensure everything is timed correctly.

The kids get so excited seeing their birthday highlighted on the marquee. Out of safety, we will never publish your child's last name, only the initial.

AUGUST CHARACTER TRAIT

Each month, Eagle Canyon will focus on teaching students about a character trait. We will share it during our Monday Morning Rallies, and teachers will reinforce it by recognizing one student each month for a monthly award.

SUPPORT EAGLE CANYON

A popular fundraising opportunity all families can support is Box Tops. Download the Box Top app on your phone. You must scan your receipts on the Box Top app within 14 days of purchasing. The app will let you know if any purchased items qualify to earn 10 cents per product. If there are not any items, you will still have an opportunity to enter the sweepstakes to win 500 bonus Box Tops. Every receipt has the potential to earn our school money.

As of today, our school has earned $50.30 this year. Our goal is to earn $1,000. Please return the coupons to the school office if you also get them. Be sure to select the grade level that you want to support. Thank you in advance for your support!
